Understanding Adjustment Disorders
Adjustment disorders occur when stress from a major life change—job loss, relationship ending, chronic illness diagnosis, relocation, or grief—triggers emotional or behavioral symptoms that interfere with daily functioning. These reactions are more intense than what would typically be expected and can persist for months after the stressor begins.
While it's normal to struggle during difficult transitions, adjustment disorders involve symptoms that significantly impair work, relationships, or self-care. These conditions are treatable, and most people recover fully with structured support and evidence-based therapy.
