Understanding Binge Eating Disorder at MVBH
Binge Eating Disorder is the most common eating disorder in the United States, affecting adults of all genders, body types, and backgrounds. Unlike other eating disorders, BED does not involve regular compensatory behaviors like purging or excessive exercise, but it shares the profound emotional distress and health risks that characterize all eating disorders. Many people live with BED for years before seeking help, often because shame, stigma, or lack of awareness prevent them from recognizing that treatment is available and effective.
Merrimack Valley Behavioral Health provides outpatient treatment for Binge Eating Disorder at our Amesbury, Massachusetts facility. Our the clinical team understand that BED is not about willpower or discipline - it is a complex mental health condition rooted in emotional regulation, trauma, anxiety, depression, and learned coping patterns. We offer structured, compassionate care that addresses both the eating behaviors and the underlying psychological factors that sustain them.
Treatment at MVBH is designed for adults who are medically stable and able to participate in outpatient therapy. We do not provide medical stabilization, inpatient care, or residential treatment. Our programs - Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and individual therapy - help clients develop the skills and insights needed for sustainable recovery while living at home and maintaining daily responsibilities.
